About Sedona Sunset Coleus

Karl Ludwig Blume (1796-1862) discovered coleus being grown in the Dutch colony of Java. Its origins are unknown but include specimens located in Asia and Africa. At that time, coleus gained popularity in Victorian England. Auction houses even sold them at exorbitant prices since they were so popular and new on the market. Fortunately, today, prices have decreased, varieties have increased, and new hybrids are introduced yearly.

Fun Facts: In Victorian time...

In Victorian times, Coleus was a parlor plant embellishing windows, window boxes, and conservatories. By the early 1900s, it was no longer as popular due to inferior plant growth at the time.

Coleus varieties include trailing, mounding, and spreading habits and take the place of flowering plants in a shade garden.

When growing Coleus, remove the terminal bud of young shoots to encourage branching to get more colorful foliage. Remove the flowers to send more energy to the leaves for growth.

ColorBlaze® Sedona Sunset® Coleus is an award winner for a top performer in ten plant trials!
