Place this plant in full sun outside in the garden or a container planting. If temperatures raise above 80°F your plant will begin to suffer.

Water well in well-draining soil. As the soil dries, check it periodically and water while its roots get established. When the roots are anchored well, you can water and allow the soil to almost dry or before your flower wilts. Use a plant moisture meter and keep the soil above #3.

Likes humidity levels 50% or higher.

From early spring until frost, these African daisies can handle temps down to 20°-25°F but will stop blooming when temps go above 80°F. They will recover in the fall when temps cool off. Their flowers close at night and, on cloudy days.

This plant is considered an annual in planting zones under 9. It prefers cool climates and will have trouble when temps rise above 80°F. They grow best in the Northeast and upper Mid-west, where temperatures stay cool most of the summer.

Fertilize when watering twice a month in the spring and summer with a 1/2 strength water-soluable fertilizer high in phosphorus to encourage blooms.

To transplant into a garden container or the garden bed, water your plant the night before. Dig the hole twice as wide as the grower pot and the same depth as the grower pot (not deeper). Remove the plant and center in the spot. Add rooting hormone around the roots of the plant. Water in the hole and let drain. If you have clay soils, add composted leaves, mushroom compost, and perlite to enhance the soil consistency. Slopes work well too. Fill around the plant and up to the top of its soil line. Tamp down with your hands to remove any air pockets. Water again around the drip line, being careful not to soak the leaves to help prevent fungus. Give this plant long drinks of water to get it established, then let the soil dry between waterings once the roots establish. Mulch around the roots to keep the roots cool.

When wintering this perennial over in zones 9-11, cut back growth in the late winter or early spring to prepare for new growth to begin. Mulch well.

Use sterilized pruners, remove 4-5 inches sections from the end of a stem (just below the node), and cut at an angle. Remove leaves from the lower part of the stem. Dip each branch in the rooting hormone to encourage root growth. Then place your cutting in a four-inch pot in a lightweight moist growing medium with perlite. Cover the potted plant loosely with a clear plastic bag to hold in humidity Set the baby cutting in warm, bright, indirect light for several weeks. Check moisture needs and don't let the medium get dry. After the stems have grown roots and anchored, you can remove the plastic bag and start fertilizing.
