Indoors: 55-72°F but prefers the warmer side
 

If using a water meter, wait until it registers 3 on the scale before watering. Use filtered, bottled, or tap water sitting 24 hours to release the chemicals and water enough that the water discharges out of the drainage holes. Avoid soft water with high salt content. Avoid getting the foliage wet as this can cause fungus issues. Once the water is fully drained, replace it into the cache or decorative pot. Avoid overwatering and don't allow the roots to sit in water as it can suffer from root rot. During winter months, it will need less watering as it goes dormant.
 

This begonia prefers higher humidity levels around its leaves. Add a humidifier or pebble tray. It likes humidity around 50-60%. If misting, make sure the leaves dry and don't hold droplets to avoid fungus growth.
 

Overall, Begonias are often used to express appreciation, friendship, and unity to the recipient. Each plant may show off different colored flowers with a special meaning for each color as well.
 

Outside: Avoid temperatures that dip below 40°F in the wintertime. Overwinter inside in a bright, indirect light window or a greenhouse.
 

Fertilize once a month by diluting a liquid fertilizer into the water while watering. Use half the recommended strength. Fertilize in the spring and summer months but let the plant rest in the fall and winter.
 

When receiving the Rex Begonia plant, do not repot immediately but wait at least 6-12 months. Allow the plant to be a bit rootbound before repotting. In the spring, go slightly bigger in width and depth. Most begonias like a shallower pot than other plants so the roots drain well and not sitting in water or wet soil. (Too big of a pot could cause the soil to dry slower, which is not helpful.) Use an African Violet mix or a soilless planting mix with coco coir, vermiculite and perlite for aeration and quick drainage. Place a piece of screening at the bottom of the container over the drainage hole to secure the soil and allow it to drain. Before transplanting, water your plant in the old pot a couple days before handling so it is hydrated adequately. Add the soil mix to the bottom to elevate the root ball. Lift the plant and release the roots against the existing planter. Use a clean knife or garden trowel to wedge between the pot and the soil to loosen. Inspect the roots. Notice if there are any dead or rotting roots and trim off with sterile pruners. Ensure the plant is sitting about 1 inch below the edge of the pot to avoid water spillage. Add more soil and backfill around the sides by tamping down. Fill up to the soil line but not over. Water thoroughly, leaving the soil damp but not soggy. If settling occurs, add more soil.
 

To prune the leaves to make the plant fuller, pinch the central stalk to form new branches and leaves. If leaves look dusty, take a small makeup brush to dust them off, supporting the underside with your hand. Showering them is not recommended since the leaves may have small indentations that could hold water.
 

In the spring or summer, remove a medium-sized leaf from the mother plant with a 1-2 inch stem attached. Place a pinch of root hormone onto a paper plate and dip the end in the rooting hormone. Since the stem is delicate, poke a hole in the moist (not wet) seed-starting medium with the end of a pencil. Bury the stem 1/2 inch into the soil, then pack the soil around it securely. Cover the propagated leaf with a clear plastic bag and check the soil moisture daily to ensure it doesn't dry out. Keep the humidity high around the plant while it roots. Keep the plant in bright, indirect light while it grows. Once the plantlets have emerged and are at a healthy stage, repot into a well-draining, aerated mix with coco coir, perlite, or vermiculite. A premix like African violet mix is an excellent choice too.
