This sea pink can handle full sun if you live in northern climates. However, in the south with high temperatures, place it in part-sun (4-6 hours), so it doesn't dry out too fast!

Water regularly, letting well-draining or sandy soil dry between waterings. If you have clay soils, amend with well-draining organic matter or use in a container planting. Check it periodically and water while its roots get established.

This plant is used to growing near the sea so it likes average to high humidity.

This plant's foliage will die off after the first frost in the fall, so if you're in planting zones 4-8, treat it like a perennial.

In southern climates, keep this plant in part sun (4-6 hours) and in northern climates it can be in full sun (6-8 hours).

Apply a layer of compost around the roots of the plant each spring and mid summer. Too much fertilizer on this plant can weaken it.

To transplant into a garden container or the garden bed, water your plant the night before. Dig the hole twice as wide as the grower pot and the same depth as the grower pot (not deeper). Remove the plant and center in the spot. Add rooting hormone around the roots of the plant. Water in the hole and let drain. If you have clay soils, add composted leaves, mushroom compost, and perlite to enhance the soil consistency. Slopes work well too. Fill around the plant and up to the top of its soil line. Tamp down with your hands to remove any air pockets. Water again around the drip line. Give this plant consistent waterings but allow to dry between waterings. Mulch around the roots throughout the season.

Deadhead the blooms by pruning the stems down to the base to encourage new growth after the first and second flowering period. Remove the leaves in late winter to get ready for new growth in the spring.

Divide the Sea Pink in the early spring when emerging from dormancy. First water well the day before to hydrate the plant well. Pull from the earth, being careful to dig far enough out not to damage its existing roots. To divide, cut through the roots with a sharp knife or pruners. Replant in a rich, well-draining garden mix. Place the roots at the same level as the previous plant adding soil and root hormone to the base of the hole. Water the roots and fill the hole with existing soil and amendments. Mulch around the plant to hold in the moisture. Check the moisture each day, add water until the roots establish, then back off on watering once established and water when the soil dries out.
