Calathea Cathedral Windows (Goeppertia makoyana syn. Calathea makoyana) can be considered a work of art from the celestial being that created orchids. She is a masterpiece and even gained notoriety with the Royal Horticultural Society as a must-have plant. Her stained glass appearance with green swipes of evergreen brushed on either side of the midrib against the silvery-green leaves will mesmerize you. You'll gasp when her leaves fold up in the evening to reveal her deep purple undersides. It's like having two different plants in one! She reaches 18 in. tall and does best in high humidity areas.

About Calathea Cathedral Windows

Bow your head and meditate when looking at the leaves on this Peacock Plant. Her other common name is Cathedral Windows which is fitting since her leaves have a stained glass look. The silvery-green leaves look like green swipes of evergreen the gods brushed on either side of the midrib. She requires a hot-house or humidifier nearby to keep her leaves moisturized. Give this plant of choice consistent moisture and indirect bright sun to mimic her sub-tropical native conditions.

Fun Facts: The young leaves ...

The young leaves and bracts accumulate small water-filled cavities within the leaf structure. This natural collection provides a habitat for associated fauna, flora, and invertebrates. All living things work together to support each other! We love it! Until most recently, you would find this plant and 200 other species in the genus Calathea. But because of more DNA testing, definitive morphological characters that define each genus have recategorized it into the Goeppertia genus. Calathea species have a total of sixty overall.

    Satisified

I received a lovely plant, in good condition, so the product appears to be of good quality and functional packaging helped it arrive safe and sound. I have no complaints there. I received a gift card for use with Lively Root, and otherwise would not have spent the money to buy and ship a small plant to my home. I live in an area where nurseries are plentiful, so I am used to having easy access to live plants. I think this business model would be better appreciated by someone without such access and looking for a high quality plant.
