African Blue Basil (Ocimum kilimandscharicum × Ocimum basilicum) is a sterile hybrid and a cross between two favorites: camphor basil (used primarily as a tea) and dark opal basil (purple leaves and flowers)! Of course, take a bite! Mix it into your veggies and meals for a yummy treat! Expect her to grow up to 4 feet tall and wide! Also great for cocktails!

About African Blue Basil

Our African Blue Basil adds color and a robust flavor to dishes. Basil loves the warm temps of summer and cool nights of relief to draw out her robust flavors and beneficial oils. While she's growing in heated conditions, keep her roots consistently moist but not soggy, so she keeps producing those deep edible green leaves!

Finally a basil plant I can keep alive

I have had bad luck with basil plants bought at the grocery store and hardware stores, they start dying within a week. But the basil plant I purchased from Lively Root is thriving. I have already been able to enjoy the basil in cooking! Lesson learned don't buy house plants at hardware box stores!
