Superba Green Snake Plant

One of the best houseplants for low light conditions, tolerating everything from near-windowless rooms to bright indirect light with remarkable adaptability. While it survives in very low light, medium to bright indirect light produces the fastest growth and the most vivid leaf coloring. Avoid prolonged harsh direct sun, which can cause pale, washed-out foliage.

Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings — every 2–4 weeks depending on light levels and season. Overwatering is by far the most common cause of decline and death in sansevierias, leading quickly to root and base rot. When in doubt, wait another week. Use a pot with drainage holes and never allow the plant to sit in standing water under any circumstances.

Thrives in average to low household humidity and is one of the least humidity-sensitive houseplants available. No supplemental moisture is required whatsoever. It handles the dry air of heated and air-conditioned indoor environments better than almost any other tropical houseplant, making it an outstanding choice for offices, bedrooms, and any low-humidity indoor space.

Adapts well to a wide range of indoor temperatures and is one of the more temperature-flexible houseplants available. Avoid sustained exposure to temperatures below 50°F — cold is the one condition that will quickly damage this otherwise tough plant. Keep away from cold drafts, exterior doors in winter, and air conditioning vents that blow directly onto the foliage.

Suited for outdoor growing in frost-free to lightly frost-tolerant Zones 9–11. In all other climates it performs as a permanent, year-round houseplant. Its exceptional tolerance for a wide range of indoor conditions — low light, low humidity, irregular watering — makes it one of the most universally adaptable houseplants in our entire collection.

Feed just once or twice during the growing season — once in early spring and once in midsummer — with a balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength. Repot every two years in spring, or when the plant is visibly bursting from its container or the roots are breaking through the pot. Use a heavy, very well-draining potting mix — a blend of standard potting soil and coarse perlite or cactus mix works excellently. Choose a sturdy pot with drainage holes as mature sansevierias can become top-heavy. Water lightly after repotting and allow the soil to dry fully before watering again.

Wipe the broad, upright leaves with a soft damp cloth monthly to remove dust buildup and keep the deep green coloring looking sharp and vibrant. Given the smooth, flat surface of the leaves, this is a quick and easy task. Remove any yellowing or damaged leaves at the base by cutting cleanly at soil level. Avoid leaf shine products which can clog the pores.

The easiest method is dividing offsets — the small pups that form at the base of the mother plant. Simply separate from the parent during repotting, ensuring each pup has some roots attached, and pot into well-draining mix. For leaf cuttings, cut a healthy leaf into 3–4 inch sections, allow to dry for a day, and insert upright into moist, well-draining mix. Note that variegated leaf markings may not be preserved through leaf cuttings — division is preferred for maintaining the 'Superba Green' characteristics.
