The Braided Schefflera Tree is a bold and sophisticated indoor tree that takes one of the most dependable and beloved houseplants and elevates it into a true statement piece. Its multiple stems are carefully braided as they grow, creating a distinctive, sculptural trunk that adds architectural interest and artisanal charm to any living room, entryway, or office. Lush, glossy, umbrella-like leaf clusters crown the braided form in a display that feels both tropical and refined. Low-maintenance, long-lived, and endlessly impressive — a genuine centerpiece plant for any indoor space.

Braided Schefflera Tree Care Guide

Bright, indirect light produces the best, most compact growth and the deepest, most lustrous foliage. An east or west-facing window is well suited. Lower light is tolerated but will result in more open, leggy growth over time. Avoid harsh direct afternoon sun which can scorch the foliage.

Allow the top inch or two of soil to dry between waterings, roughly every 7–10 days. Scheffleras are prone to root rot if overwatered — always use a pot with drainage and discard standing water from the saucer. Reduce watering frequency in fall and winter when growth slows.

Tolerates average indoor humidity well, making it one of the more adaptable houseplant trees for typical home environments. Some additional humidity is appreciated, especially in winter when indoor heating dries the air. Misting or a nearby humidifier can help prevent brown leaf tips.

Thrives in typical indoor temperatures and is reasonably adaptable. Avoid temperatures below 55°F and keep away from cold drafts and exterior doors in winter. Sudden temperature drops can cause significant leaf drop, which is one of the most common issues with scheffleras kept near drafty windows or doors.

Suited for outdoor growing year-round only in frost-free Zones 10–12. In cooler climates it is grown as a houseplant. It can be placed outdoors in a sheltered, shaded spot during warm summer months but must be brought back indoors before temperatures fall below 55°F.

Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer at half strength. Our Instant Plant Food makes monthly feeding effortless — simply add to your watering can once a month. Reduce to every 6–8 weeks in fall and pause through winter.

Repot every two years in spring when roots begin emerging from drainage holes. Choose a pot 2 inches larger with good drainage and use a well-draining, quality potting mix. Avoid overpotting, which can lead to waterlogged soil and root rot. Water thoroughly after repotting and keep in indirect light for 1–2 weeks while adjusting.

Wipe each leaflet with a soft damp cloth monthly to remove dust and maintain the glossy, vibrant appearance of the foliage. Remove any yellowing or dead leaves promptly. Regularly inspect for common pests including spider mites, scale, and mealybugs.

Take 4–6 inch stem tip cuttings in spring or summer, removing lower leaves and dipping in rooting hormone before planting in moist potting mix. Cover with a humidity dome and place in bright indirect light. Roots develop in 4–6 weeks. For larger plants, air layering is effective — wound a healthy stem, pack with damp moss, wrap in plastic, and pot up once roots are established.
