Chrysanthemum Care Guide & Presentation
Mums love plenty of light! Outdoors, they flourish in full sun. Indoors, place them near a bright window where they can get at least 5–6 hours of light daily to maintain healthy blooms and compact growth.
Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. Avoid overhead watering to minimize the risk of fungal diseases; water at the base of the plant instead.
Chrysanthemums do not require high humidity but appreciate good air circulation. Avoid overly humid or stagnant environments, which can promote mildew.
Chrysanthemums prefer moderate temperatures. They thrive best between 60–70°F (15–21°C) and may become stressed if exposed to extreme heat or frost. Move indoors if temperatures are expected to drop below freezing.
In Zones 5–9, chrysanthemums can be grown as perennials with proper winter protection. In colder zones, they are often treated as annuals unless overwintered indoors.
Remove spent blooms and yellowing leaves regularly to encourage new growth and maintain a tidy appearance. Pinch back stems early in the growing season for a bushier plant.
