This new hybrid Night Owl Snake Plant (Dracaena 'Night Owl' aka Sansevieria) is a Hahnii cultivar of the Sansevieria trifasciata Laurentii plant and displays a lower and broader rosette of oblong and erect leaves. His soft green leaves look ghosted, with faint green lines showing through with slight, cream edges. His name 'Night Owl' implies the shading on his leaves, but this one won't keep you up at night except to admire him! He's a keeper!

About Sansevieria Night Owl

In 2020, the Sansevieria became reclassified to the genus Dracaena. Plant names are changed if the plant was misidentified in the beginning. With the advancement of DNA sequencing tests, taxonomists can now scientifically classify these plants instead of by their "looks" or what plants they resemble. The terminology of plants was first developed in the 18th century by Swedish botanist Linneaus.

Fun Facts: Chinese folklore ...

Chinese folklore taught that eight virtues would be gifted to the home with this plant: success, beauty, long life, knowledge, well-being, creativity, fervor, and poetry. To enable these virtues, these plants were placed at the door for the daily flow of this blessing. The fibers in the snake plant's leaves used to be used to produce bowstrings for musical instruments, but their tensile strength is inferior to other natural materials.
