Dracaena margenata — aka the dragon tree — has to be one of our favorite ornamental houseplants. This tiny tree has thin, candelabra-shaped trunks that become more visible as it grows. Its spiky leaves are lined with red, making it even more striking. It's fairly forgiving — great for beginners — and can grow quite large. Use it to add some height to your indoor jungle, and trim it regularly to keep it shorter than six feet.
Native to the islands of Madagascar, Mauritius and the Indian Ocean.
The name dracaena is derived from the romanized form of the Ancient Greek δράκαινα – drakaina, "female dragon".
